As the season chugs on, we've got updated 2024 MLB playoff odds.
It's not worth betting or fading obvious playoff locks like the Dodgers or terrible teams like the White Sox, but there is still some value to be had in these postseason odds.
Check out a complete list of available MLB playoff odds below as well as three of my best bets for this market:
2024 MLB Playoff Odds
Odds as of July 30th, 2024
MLB Playoff Odds Best Bet: Mets To Make Playoffs (-105)
In early June, the Mets' playoff odds were below 10% and they were on track to be the sellers everybody thought they'd be this season. But boy have things changed since then. McDonald's mascot Grimace, shortstop Francisco Lindor, and some surprising pitchers have combined to push New York back into the playoff picture.
The Mets are actually buying at the deadline now, acquiring OF Jesse Winker and some pitching help. As long as guys like Sean Manaea and Luis Severino can keep up their surprise seasons in the rotation, this Mets team looks like a playoff squad to me.
MLB Playoff Odds Best Bet: Mariners To Miss Playoffs (-130)
The Mariners pushed in at the deadline, acquiring Randy Arozarena and Justin Turner. But, I don't think it'll be enough. The Astros seem set to run away with the AL West and I don't think the Mariners (who aren't even in a playoff spot right now) are better than the Royals, Twins, and Red Sox teams they'd have to catch.
After a solid start to the season, Seattle is 9-13 in July and falling way out of it. This is kind of what the Mariners do every year — tease a good team then crumble late. Why would this year be any different?
MLB Playoff Odds Value Bet: Pirates To Make Playoffs (+450)
The Pirates' 2024 season changed on May 11th when they called up top prospect Paul Skenes. The NL Rookie of the Year favorite has joined forces with Mitch Keller and Jared Jones to form one of the league's best young rotation trios. Since calling up Skenes, the Pirates are 37-31 (an 88-win pace).
The Pirates' offense is still a clear weak point, but Pittsburgh sits just a few games back of the final NL wild card spot and within striking distance of a winnable division. It'll take a huge post-deadline push to put the Pirates into the playoff picture, but if Skenes stays healthy and the offense ticks just a bit up, it's doable.
