Every year, a selection of TV series gain widespread popularity and become what we call “binge-worthy,” and last year was no exception. The 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards will return on Monday, September 12, to admire the best of television programming, honoring shows that aired between June 1, 2021, and May 31, 2022. It’s time to appreciate your favorite series and bet on the ones you think are worthy of awards in our 2022 Emmy odds.
Online sportsbook Sportsbook has the best betting odds for the main categories for achievements in acting and production. This year is interesting because a different series opens as the favorite in almost every category.
The nominees this year reek of talent, including the long-anticipated Stranger Things on Netflix and the final season of AMC’s beloved Better Call Saul. HBO’s The Peacemaker, which first aired this year, has been a crowd-pleaser. Of course, we can’t forget HBO’s Succession with 25 nominations, the most of any series.
Though the venue has yet to be announced, the ceremony is expected to return to being in person for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic. The host has yet to be announced.
Emmy Awards – Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series Odds
Two of the most awaited awards at the Emmys are Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series. The current Sportsbook odds have Succession (-175) and Ted Lasso (-145) favored in their respective categories.
Best Drama Series
Odds as of July 20 at Sportsbook
Succession (-175), which won Best Drama Series in 2020, is a strong favorite in the odds. Airing in 2018, the show started to get some attention once Game of Thrones wrapped up its series finale and we all needed something new to watch.
The show follows the CEO of a media company and his dysfunctional children as three of them cunningly try to take over the patriarchal throne and become his successor.
Though Succession opens as your favorite, this is a tight category year after year and strong contenders are listed with tempting underdog odds that don’t seem too far-fetched.
First-time nominee Squid Game (+150) made history with 14 nominations, including being the first foreign language show to be up for the Outstanding Drama award. The series was a huge hit and is the best bet for the Emmy odds.
Stranger Things (+1800) and Euphoria (+2200) are near the bottom of the odds, but I wouldn’t count them out. For one, new seasons of these shows take what seems like forever to air. They’re long anticipated and quickly watched and leave their viewers eager for more. Regardless, it is a category overflowing with greatness so there could be value in fading the favorite for this one.
Best Comedy Series
Odds as of July 20 at Sportsbook
Jason Sudeikis is all kinds of funny in Ted Lasso (-145), the show about a well-intentioned American coach hired to manage a British soccer team even though he has no experience at all. The series won Outstanding Comedy in last year’s Emmy Awards and is favored to do it again.
Barry (+125) is not far behind and a great value pick with its unique take on comedy. Bill Hader plays a hitman traveling to Los Angeles to assassinate someone but somehow finds himself joining an acting class and questioning his criminal path. It is a dark comedy mixed with a drama thriller that has you on the edge of your seat, only to end up on the floor from laughing.
Selena Gomez’s Only Murders In The Building (+1200) and Curb Your Enthusiasm (+4000) were also well received this year. Watching the awkwardness in Curb unfold and seeing Larry David in the midst of it all never gets old.
As we all know, comedy is subjective. So, an upset in this category has happened once and it can happen again. You can either place your bet on personal taste or the popular pick.
Emmy Awards – Best Acting Categories Odds
Odds as of July 20 at Sportsbook
It’s time to appreciate the actors who make our favorite shows come to life and take on their roles so well.
Lee Jung-jae of Squid Game is the -110 favorite for Best Actor in a Drama Series, the first South Korean ever to be nominated. Jung-jae is slightly favored over Brian Cox of Succession (-130), who was a nominee for the same category in 2020.
Odds as of July 20 at Sportsbook
Euphoria’s Zendaya is the clear favorite at -250 for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Her emotional portrayal of a recovering teenage drug addict is riveting and unlike anything she’s done before. She’ll look to earn her second award in the category after winning for the same role in 2020. But Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer (+850) is a strong option also as a former Sportsbook in 2019.
Odds as of July 20 at Sportsbook
We’ve got a toss-up for Best Actor in a Comedy Series with Barry’s Bill Hader and Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis both Sportsbook at -120. But the iconic comedic duo and legacies of Steve Martin and Martin Short, both listed at +800, in Only Murders In The Building should never be underestimated.
Odds as of July 20 at Sportsbook
As for Best Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series, Hack’s Jean Smart stands firm as a huge favorite to win her second consecutive award in the category at -400. Watch out for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan (+650), who has been nominated for the award in four of the last five years.
Emmy Awards – Outstanding Limited Series
Odds as of July 20 at Sportsbook
In this category, the Emmy Award is given to a series of two or more episodes, with a running time of at least 150 minutes.
In the Limited Series category, Dopesick is titled the favorite at -275. The White Lotus follows behind at +175. But keep your eye on the intensely entertaining Pam & Tommy (+1800) to potentially upset the top two.
