April of 2019 may be the biggest month in nerd history for cinema and television with the final season of Game of Thrones coming to HBO and, of course, an 11-year culmination of Marvel superhero movies that has led to Avengers: Endgame on April 25.
The blockbuster movie event is projected to shatter box office records and bring a worthy conclusion to the MCU after 22 movies and 11 television series. Online sportsbook Sportsbook has a plethora of props such as odds on whether the film will surpass Avengers: Infinity War at the box office and which Avenger may meet their untimely death.
Let’s dive into some of them below and see which ones may be primed to grab for some easy payouts:
WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW
Box Office and Rotten Tomatoes Betting Odds
The online shop is offering a prop for whether Avengers: Endgame will top $2.048 billion at the box office, which happens to be the box office figure that Avengers: Infinity War pulled in during its run last year. As someone who has seen every Marvel movie and understands the gravity of this conclusion, I’m willing to take out a second mortgage on my house that Endgame will surpass Infinity War at the box office and at -170, those odds do not deter me.
Word of mouth may have something to do with it but the one thing Infinity War was able to do is draw in the casual viewer and become an event on social media with the constant gifs and memes of Thanos making half the world vanish. The casual viewer part is something studios are banking on heavily because you didn’t need to see all 21 movies prior to seeing Infinity War to understand the plot.
Avengers: Infinity War is the highest-grossing Marvel movie of all time.
Continuing with the theme of topping Infinity War, the sportsbook also has a prop for whether it will surpass 85 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. This feels like another easy OVER at +115 because there will be a heavy emotional toll with this conclusion. Over half of the Avengers “died” in Infinity War with Thanos equipping the Infinity Gauntlet and snapping his fingers.
There are already fan theories of which Avenger will die in the finale and the trio of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) are the likeliest candidates (more on that below), which would only add to the emotional toll this movie will have on its fans.
As a result of this buildup and the cultural event that this movie will likely become, I highly recommend taking the OVER on any box office numbers or audience score props below.
Which One of Your Favorite Avengers will Perish?
Out of all the superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the three that mainly get the most press and interest from fans are Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. These three have each gotten their own movie trilogy, have been positioned as integral parts of the overarching story and, conveniently, did not vanish when Thanos wiped out half the galaxy.
It’s been widely reported that Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth’s contracts are up with Disney and there have been no reports that they plan to reprise their respective roles after this movie. Each is a movie star in their own right and having played the same character for over 10 years may have them feeling that it’s time to move on with their careers. That’s why I would bank on taking YES to each one of their characters dying in this movie, mainly because of how strong their adversary is in Thanos but also because it would wrap up this phase of the MCU to allow newcomers like Spider-Man and Captain Marvel to take the reins.
