Hard Rock Stadium and the streets of Miami Gardens, Florida welcome Formula 1 for the third running of the Miami Grand Prix this weekend.

Can Anybody Overtake Verstappen?

Sportsbooks have the reigning champion as a massive -550 favorite for the first North American race of the 2024 F1 calendar. Verstappen has been so dominant it hardly looks like he's breaking a sweat on the race track this year. The Dutchman pulled away and cruised to victory in the Chinese Grand Prix to increase his perch atop the the F1 Championship odds.

Verstappen has won four of five races this season, with only a brake failure in Australia denying him a clean sweep. He now leads the drivers' championship by 25 points and is well on his way to a fourth straight championship. The RB20 is far and away the greatest car on the grid, and with Verstappen continually separating himself from the pack, it's tough to bet against him in Florida. I mean, the guy is out here trying to drift corners in the most sophisticated racing syndicate in the world.

That being said, even our favorite bet from earlier this F1 season, Verstappen to win qualifying, is now juiced to -330 odds. With everybody catching on let's pivot. Red Bull's car and Verstappen have looked good in Miami, winning back-to-back Grand Prix's in 2022 and 2023. There's no reason to believe that changes now. Max has won 32 fastest laps in his career, including in Bahrain and Japan this season. He's also posted the fastest lap in Miami in each iteration of the race. Let's bet on that trend to continue.

Bet Max Verstappen to post the fastest lap and to win the 2024 F1 Miami Grand Prix at -140 odds.

Miami Grand Prix Race Technicals

This is the third running of the Miami Grand Prix, and the race is slated to take place on a purpose-built circuit around the Hard Rock Cafe in Miami. Miami, the 11th venue in the United States to host a world championship F1 race, will certainly present a spectacle, but the track itself is poised to be one of the most entertaining on the calendar.

The track has historically been quite speedy. Following Turn 1, there are a number of high-speed corners that eventually lead to what is in essence a long straight until Turn 11 where one can expect plenty of overtaking.

This high-speed section is followed by a more technical, tighter section before another long straight that leads to the hairpin (Turn 17), another spot on the track that will present overtaking opportunities. Essentially, drivers and engineers will have to learn whatever they can prior to the race in the three free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday, presenting teams with a real challenge.
