2024 Grey Cup Champions Picks & Best Bets
The Division Finals are this weekend with Saskatchewan and Winnipeg meeting in the West while Montreal hosts Toronto. Let's examine the top of the oddsboard.
winnipeg blue bombers hot at the right time
Unlike how the Als have fallen off the wagon, the Bombers went 9-1 SU to finish the regular season, getting red-hot right when they needed to. Their final performance was a mere 28-27 victory over Montreal on Quebec soil, making their mark in case a Grey Cup rematch awaits. Winnipeg has surged on the stats board, allowing the fewest 20.3 PPG and 328.6 YPG. They've quickly become on par with Montreal's defense, if not better in specific areas.
Notably, Zach Collaros isn't even playing his best football, throwing 15 interceptions alongside his 17 touchdowns, his worst full-season mark since 2013. It's been Brady Oliveira carrying the load, obliterating a league-high 1,353 rushing yards to get his Bombers in scoring position. Once Collaros nears the endzone, he dials in — earning 10 of his 17 touchdowns from the redzone.
Mike O'Shea also went 2-0 SU in his final two meetings over BC and Saskatchewan, his potential opponents come the Division Finals.
montreal alouettes, Looking for back-to-back grey cups
The Alouettes are looking to prove their shocking Grey Cup championship wasn't just a fluke.
But, going 3-4 SU between the start of September to the end of the regular season, Montreal has looked unusually beatable. It's not ideal timing for the momentum to come to a halt for them either. With Tyson Philpot suffering a season-ending injury, the Alouettes offense has gotten bleak.
But, allowing the second-fewest 22.4 PPG AND 267.1 passing yards per game, it's been the defense that's kept them as a league threat anyways.
The good news? Montreal fixes any problem it runs into. When Fajardo went down, Davis Alexander shined with a 71.6 completion percentage and nearly 1,000 yards. Even when Tyson Philpot's career-season was ruined by injury, the Alouettes signed last season's top receiver, Austin Mack, back from the NFL. There's really no problem too big to solve. Overcoming adversity is something the Als are clearly capable of.
