How to Read Series A Soccer Odds

From August to May, you have numerous betting options (and that’s not counting Coppa Italia and Champions League). Before you place your wager, it’s important to understand how the odds work for this football league.

When you check out a soccer-centric betting site, you’ll see odds displayed like this:

  • AC Milan -121
  • Juventus +130
  • Draw +307

We use American odds but you can select Decimal (1.20) or Fractional (1/5) style. Where you live will usually dictate the type of odds you’re used to. Bettors in the U.K. prefer fractions, whereas people in Australia and Europe use decimals. In the United States and Canada, you can guess what style is most popular.

The team with the minus sign (-) is the favorite. The team with the plus sign (+) is the underdog. The draw is neither a fave nor a dog but simply a third betting option. At -121, oddsmakers believe that Milan has a 54.8 percent chance of winning. At +130, Juve has a 43.5 percent shot and there is a 24.6 percent possibility that the game will end in a tie.

Let’s say you want to make a moneyline bet. This requires you to pick a team to win. If you like the fave and bet $100 on them, you’d get a payout of $182.64 – your original money is returned along with your prize of $82.64.

You can use our Odds Calculator to see what you’d win based on the amount you bet and the offered odds.
