Yes, sports betting is legal in 55 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes thanks to an Election Day ballot question in 2022. If your Louisiana parish isn’t on the list below, then your parish voted to approve sports betting and you’re welcome to start betting today. Just keep in mind that Since April of 2024, betting on college player props isn’t allowed anywhere in Louisiana. 

Sports Betting is NOT permitted in the following parishes:

*Catahoula

*Franklin

*Jackson

*LaSalle

*Sabine

*Union

*West Carroll

*Winn

The aforementioned vote took place on November 3, 2020 thanks to Senate Bill 130, which passed in the house and senate during the summer of that year. FanDuel and DraftKings were two of six online sportsbooks who appeared when online sports betting launched in Louisiana on January 28, 2022.

Sports betting came to life in Louisiana during the 2021-2022 football season. Like a delicious gumbo, the effort required many different ingredients as voters in 64 parishes all had a say after Governor John Bel Edward’s signed a bill that breezed through the state house and senate. After more than two years of allowing wagers on individual college athletes, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board banned those wagers in 2024.
