The New Orleans Pelicans teetered the line of being an upper-echelon team in the packed Western Conference or being more of a pretender than a contender, which was great for bettors wagering on them as underdogs but not so much when it came to actually competing for the Larry O'Brien trophy.
They accumulated the strongest win-loss record as underdogs and the second-most profit overall going 18-14 SU before ultimately bowing out in the play-in tournament. New Orleans also joined the Indiana Pacers as the only squads to win as underdogs over 50 percent of the time.

Unlike in the SU moneyline market, far more teams found a means to success covering the spread as an underdog as opposed to winning straight up. Unlike in that market where only two teams had records above the .500 mark, here in ATS, over half of the league went 50 percent or better.
The Golden State Warriors were the strongest overall covering over one-third of the time, followed by New Orleans as two of only three teams with a winning efficiency greater than 60 percent.

This report chronicling underdog success on particular days of the week is more to assess specific patterns, as there's no logical reason as to why one particular day would have a better hit rate than others. For example, with Tuesday and Saturday being outliers, all other days fall within roughly a five-percent difference of each other both ATS and SU, although Monday is the only day where profit was earned in 2023-24 for either market.
