Odds for the 2024 NFL Comeback Player of the Year award are up. With the NFL season in full swing, there's no better time to get into NFL awards betting.
The current NFL Comeback Player of the Year odds provide a number of valuable betting opportunities. In the past, this award was designed to recognize players who overcame adversity, be it after devastating injury or poor performance, who emerged from the depths of despair and lit the NFL world on fire. Prior to this season, the Associated Press clarified that the award should go to someone who overcame an illness or injury and not someone who followed a bad year with a good year. This year the odds are speckled with seasoned veterans looking to reclaim their former glory and rising stars looking to prove themselves on the gridiron.
Here’s a look at the updated odds to win the NFL Comeback Player of the Year and my best bets:

NFL Comeback Player of the Year Best Bets
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Joe Flacco burst onto the scene for the Cleveland Browns late last season, throwing for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns in five starts and becoming the first quarterback in Browns history to record 300+ passing yards in four straight games. He beat out Damar Hamlin, Baker Mayfield and Matthew Stafford to win Comeback Player of the Year. With a number of star signal-callers returning to the field in 2024, this looks to be a quarterback's award to lose yet again.
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins is the new NFL Comeback Player of the Year favorite after throwing for 509 yards and four touchdowns in Week 5. However, his +280 odds are far too juiced for my liking. We'll look for better value further down the board.
Kyler Murray +1400
Murray is exactly the type of player we want to be targeting to win the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. Books and bettors have taken notice as his odds have dropped dramatically from +4500 to +2500 to +1400 over the first month of the season. Murray returned just after halfway through the 2023 NFL season after tearing his ACL in 2022.
He won three starts in 2023 and now has far more talent around him. The likes of Paris Johnson Jr. and Jonah Williams will help give Murray a clean pocket, while Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride are poised to establish themselves as top pass-catchers. Greg Dortch, Zay Jones, and promising sophomore Michael Wilson round out his receiving group, while Florida State star Trey Benson joins James Conner in the backfield.
The odds are in Murray and the Cardinals' favor after a 4-13 season. They look set for a massive bounce-back campaign, and Murray will be the heart and soul of that turnaround. At +1000 odds, Murray is an excellent bet to finally make good on his potential and win the Comeback Player of the Year award. Murray's three-touchdown performance against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2 has only buoyed his chances. A strong performance against a tough Detroit Lions defense in Week 3 did little to hurt Murray's NFL Comeback Player of the Year case. An upset over the San Francisco 49ers has only furthered his case. Bet on Murray while you still can, as his odds are sure to get tighter as the season rolls along.
Talanoa Hufanga +20000
I'm looking for a game-changing player on a surefire playoff time when handicapping this market, and Talanoa Hufanga is just that.
His 2023 season was cut short after a breakout first-team All-Pro year in 2022, but he still racked up three interceptions in that time. Hufanga allowed just one touchdown at a 72.9 passer rating in coverage last year and will drastically improve the play of San Francisco's back end once again this season.
I love backing Hufanga to pick up where he left off for the contending 49ers at +20000 odds.
How to Bet on the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award
Betting on the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award is an inexact science. In this case, the favorite could very well return to the field and go on a tear, as Aaron Rodgers and the Jets are all in on winning this season.
As our NFL Comeback Player of the Year award history shows, each of the past six winners has been a quarterback who has either returned from a season-ending injury or far exceeded pre-season expectations. In the case of Flacco last year, a late rally to take the Browns to the playoffs was enough for him to emerge victorious.
Candidates at other positions are few and far between this year. Nick Chubb is an interesting candidate, however, he tore both his ACL and MCL on a brutal hit midway through last season, and his return date is still unknown. Even an athlete of his calibre will surely need a few extra weeks, if not months to get back to full force after such a devastating injury. Further down the board new Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins has potential, however, he broke his fibula in college before tearing his ACL, LCL, meniscus and Achilles over the past three NFL seasons. The road back to stardom is long and arduous. I'm rooting for him to recover, but it's unlikely he has the type of impact necessary to unseat a quarterback from winning this award.
As such, you'll want to target a quarterback who is capable of overcoming the odds and contributing heavily to his team's success in 2024 for your NFL Comeback Player of the Year bets.
At any sportsbook, you’ll see the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award odds laid out like this:
Unlike a moneyline bet where favorites are designated with the minus sign (-), in this case, the player with the lowest odds is the favorite. Here, it’s Aaron Rodgers.
Let’s say you’re loving Anthony Richardson at +700. If you were to lay down $100 on him, you’d get a payout of $800 – your $100 is returned along with your winnings of $700. On the other hand, if you believe that Aaron Rodgers is going to have a stellar season, that same $100 on him would give you a payout of $230 – you get your original money back coupled with your prize of $130.
