NHL Playoff Picture: Florida Might Have Already Lost Game 7

It's come down to a single game. We've got a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2019. Will the Edmonton Oilers be the first Canadian team since 1993 to win or will the Florida Panthers win their first Cup in their third Finals appearance?

Here's the NHL playoff picture for you:

Eastern Conference Winner: Florida Panthers

All of the trends were in the Panthers' favor, especially once they went up 3-0 in this series. Of the 10 teams who'd gone up 3-0 in the Finals since 2007, all of them won the Cup. But Edmonton said: "nuts to your trend" winning the next three games.

As a franchise, the Panthers are 2-1SU in Game 7. They won Game 7 of the Conference Finals back in 1996 and then Game 7 of Round 1 against the Bruins last year.

But there's a worrying trend here for the Panthers when it comes to three-game losing streaks. This season when they've lost three games in a row they've always gone on to lose a fourth. Talk about the worst possible trend at the worst possible time of the year.

Western Conference Winner: Edmonton Oilers

Did the Oilers have the Panthers right where they wanted them with a 3-0 series deficit? Because when they lose three straight, the Oilers go beast mode, winning no less than their next five games.

They've won three and now they only need one more win. As a franchise, the Oilers hold an 8-4SU (67%) record in Game 7. In the McDavid era that record is a similar 67% (2-1SU).

And with the aforementioned McDavid taking it to another level in this series with nearly two points per game (1.83), it's hard to bet against the Oilers train.
