Oregon vs Wisconsin Odds & Picks Week 12: Ducks Easily Cover

Oregon’s quest to make the College Football Playoff faces its final regular-season road test on Saturday at Wisconsin, where the Ducks are 14-point favorites over the home-standing Badgers. It’s the first time the new Big 10 bedfellows have met since the Rose Bowl following the 2019 campaign.

The No. 1 team in both the AP Top 25 and the CFP rankings, the Ducks had covered in four straight games before last week’s 21-point victory over 24-point underdog Maryland. Wisconsin has lost two straight both outright and ATS, and scored a total of just 23 points in the process. Last time out two weeks ago, the Badgers were hammered 42-10 by 2.5-point home favorite Iowa.

Year 2 at Wisconsin has been a struggle for coach Luke Fickell, whose Badgers simply don’t have the manpower to truly compete with the elite teams on their schedule. Alabama, then ranked No. 4, came to Camp Randall Stadium as a 14.5-point favorite in September and romped to a 42-10 victory. Penn State, then ranked No. 3, blew open a close game in the second half to win 28-13 in Madison on Oct. 27.

How do you not expect more of the same on Saturday, with unbeaten Oregon in town? Wisconsin lingers near the bottom of the Big 10 in both sacks and tackles for loss, so it’s hard to envision the Badgers getting much pressure on Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel, the most accurate passer in the nation. Wisconsin quarterback Braedyn Locke has thrown as many interceptions as touchdowns. You get the picture.

Not even the dreaded two-time-zone travel bugaboo has managed to slow the Ducks, who won and covered at both Purdue and Michigan. Wisconsin will try to run the ball and shorten the game, but that stands to be only so effective against an Oregon attack that’s scored 31 or more points in nine consecutive games.

Oregon vs Wisconsin Week 12 Pick: UNDER 52

This is a stratospheric total for the Badgers, who have faced totals in the 40s their last five times out. The Ducks for all their offensive numbers also have an excellent defense and have gone UNDER in five of their last seven. Against that anemic Wisconsin offense, we’re expecting more of the same on Saturday.

Oregon vs Wisconsin News

The Ducks played last week without top receiver Tez Johnson, who suffered a shoulder injury against Michigan and sat out against the Terps. ESPN’s Pete Thamel has reported that Johnson is “expected back at some point in the comings weeks,” raising hopes about his availability for Wisconsin. The Badgers were without receiver Bryson Green against Iowa, and are also facing an off-field issue—Wisconsin assistant Jack Del Rio, a senior adviser to Fickell, was reportedly arrested early Friday morning for driving whole intoxicated.

Oregon vs Wisconsin Prop Bet: Jordan James Anytime TD (-270)

The Ducks’ effective passing attack has opened things up on the ground for James, who’s scored nine touchdowns over his last eight games. Oregon has lots of great skill players and spreads the ball around, meaning that James sometimes doesn’t get many touches—like just seven carries last week against Maryland, and 10 a few weeks earlier against Purdue. But he makes the most of his opportunities, with 10 touchdowns on the season.
