The Steelers’ Success has Hinged on Bell’s Performance

After getting a week to rest up, the Pittsburgh Steelers will look to bounce back after their Week 7 trouncing at Heinz Field at the hands of the New England Patriots. They will travel to Maryland to take on their division rival Baltimore Ravens in Week 9 and will still more than likely be without the services of Big Ben Roethlisberger.

SHARK BITES
  • The Steelers are 0-3 SU in their last 3 games against the Ravens.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of the Ravens' last 7 games with a closing total of 43.5 or more.
  • Antonio Brown has scored at least 1 receiving TD in four of his last 5 games after a loss.

This is a tough game to extract value from when we don’t know who will be starting under center for Pittsburgh, but the Steelers have historically struggled in Baltimore as they are just 3-10 in their last 13 games at M&T Bank Stadium and they’ve dropped two straight.

Le’Veon Bell will have to have his A game on Sunday as the Steelers are 0-2 in the two games he has failed to combine for over 150 yards rushing and receiving. The Ravens have climbed back up in the ranks in defensive DVOA as they are currently the sixth most efficient defense. Landry Jones struggled to move the ball against the 18th most efficient defense (New England) last week so it could be a long day for the Steelers offense if Roethlisberger is unable to go.

The Ravens have gone against the conventional wisdom that playing at home gives you the advantage. They’ve gone just 5-5 SU and an abysmal 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games in Baltimore.

This game has the potential to be played down in the dirt with two offenses going that have been anything but efficient in recent weeks. Joe Flacco has an adjusted quarterback rating of 52.9 this year – that’s good for 25th in the league – and his offense has scored just 19.9 points per game.

Prepare for this one to be hard on the eyes and maybe have a case of beer handy.
