Candy Bars

Candy Bars Slot Machine

Released in December 2013, IGT Slots’ Candy Bars game has become a favourite with gamers the world over. The fun and flashy four-reel video slot is all about candy – as the name suggests – with the ultimate goal of the player to fill the reels with bars of milk chocolate.

You could be forgiven for developing a hunger during play, as all sorts of tasty morsels flit across the reels. From mouthwatering chocolate bars to gumdrops, peppermints and lollipops, the action is enough to give anyone a sweet tooth! There’s a decidedly fun aspect to the reel icons, with each tasty treat given its own characteristics. The lollipop wears a shocked expression, the peppermint is smiling joyously and the green gum is scowling like a cartoon villain.

There’s a lot going on with the reels, which are framed by a candy-striped pole. The background is a patterned sky blue, with the game settings at the bottom coloured green and white. The Candy Bar logo, whose lettering covers an unwrapped chocolate bar, sits above the reels to the left, while the various jackpot totals sit on the right.

50 Pay-lines

Candy Bars features a whopping 50 fixed pay-lines, thanks to the matrix the game uses to yield wins. You can take a look at the various pay-line combinations by clicking on the button marked ‘Pays’ above the reels.

Visually, Candy Bars resembles a great many slots in that the spin button is located along the foot of the reels, as are markers for Coin Value, Total Bet and Balance. You can also click on the toolbox icon, where you can adjust the graphic quality from low to high – depending on your device’s capability of rendering the graphics. There’s also an Auto Spin feature; simply choose how many spins you wish to occur automatically at the current bet settings. To quit this function, just press Stop.

Wild Gumballs

The assigned wild in Candy Bars is the gumball. Utilise a wild gumball in a line win and you’re looking at a double pay-out. If you happen to land two of these bad boys, your pay is quadrupled. The gumball appears on reels two and three only, and substitutes for all other symbols in a line win. However, be aware that the wild does not have substitutive powers in Blackout wins or progressive wins.

Regular pay-outs aren’t too shabby. Being that this is a fun, old-school game, the 7 icon is the highest-paying normal symbol. There are two 7 symbols, one of which has the figure 7 coloured in red, with a blue background, and one in which 7 is coloured blue, with a red background. The red 7 is the one to watch out for, as four of these in a line pays 100. By comparison, four blue 7s pays just half of that.

The sweet icons themselves aren’t anything to shout about; they pay just 10 for four, or 5 for three. All line wins, incidentally, pay left to right across the reels.

Blackout wins occur when the entire reel grid is flooded with a single icon. Again, red 7s are the ones to watch out for; if your grid fills up with these emblems, you’ll pocket 25,000! A blue 7 Blackout pays 12,500, while candy Blackouts pay 5,000.

If the reels are covered with 7s – but a mix of blue and reds – you can still anticipate a considerable 5,000 win. All Blackout wins are multiplied by the coin value and pay in addition to regular line wins; coinciding line wins on alternate pay-lines are added concurrently.

All About the Progressive

Players can hit progressive jackpots depending on just how many chocolate bars they can land on the reels. The pay-out depends on where the chocolate appears. Flood reel two with chocolate bars and you’ll win the Snack Size pay-out; land two whole chocolate bars across the central reels and you’ll win the King Size pay-out; and land three chocolate bars on reels 2, 3 and 4 and you’ll scoop the Giant Size pay-out. Above the reels, in the top-right corner, you’ll see which value is represented by each respective Mason jar. Only the highest progressive jackpot is paid, in addition to any line wins.

Sweeter than Sugar

Whether playing in a real-life casino or an online version, you’re sure to get a kick out of this fun, candy-themed game. It’s not the most sophisticated title on the market, but it’s certainly worth a go.
