I Dream of Jeannie Slot
2015 was a ground breaking year for IGT with more official collaboration slots released or announced than ever before. Coinciding with the release of the Bewitched TV slot another new Las Vegas release was (ironically) the major competitor to that 1960’s series, featuring the late Larry Hagman of legendary Dallas fame as the astronaut who discovered a Jeannie who had been locked away for 2000 years. ‘I dream of Jeannie’ has been done before by IGT in the distant past but they clearly felt it was time to update to a new 3D video slot based on this popular TV theme.
It isn’t just one game either, there are two base games to choose from and wait for it – six bonus feature rounds in total! It took me a good five minutes just to go through the pay-tables and features info on the slot before play it has so much to offer.
You can also play four reels at once, with a min bet of 50 credits this leaves you with two dollars to cover all four screens, each double up in wager from the base increases your multiplier value by x1. Max bet is 600 credits so that is 24 dollars a spin to play all four 5×3 reels at max bet with all 30 pay-lines active on each reel set, this range should allow all types of players to enjoy the game and make a wish for one of the four progressively building jackpots!
Theme & Features
The styling will be familiar to fans of the hit 60’s show, the backdrop is pure vibrant 1960’s colours and the sound effects and music are all imported content straight from the TV series which adds an immersive atmosphere to the audio visuals. The reel icons are all symbols of the show and include the actors themselves and famous props like magic carpets and of course Jeannie’s iconic genie bottle.
The base games take two different approaches both of which relates to how their wilds work, in the wishes granted game the wilds are stacked whereas in the magic bottle game the wilds are transferring, another move forward in player interaction as you are deciding what type of wilds you prefer to play with rather than having a fixed game structure not exactly to your liking.
Three bonus symbols on the reels at any time will initiate the bonus wheel, which will randomly select one of the bonus rounds.
- Progressive Pick: Players select from 3 picks to uncover one of the 5 jackpots, the largest being Jeannie herself and the smallest (and most common) being the magic carpet.
- A Blink of Jeannie’s Eye: Up to 15 icons fill the bonus reels and are replaced by an identical symbol after each spin for a run of 5 free spins total – wilds will really help here!
- I Dream of…: Players select a character from the show and then choose icons to earn bonus credits. A non-matching choice increases the win multiplier, and this pick style bonus continues until a match is found, one of the few picks where you don’t want a match early!
- Jeannie’s Treasure Chest: Five free spins are granted with a sticky reel icon. The selected reel symbol sticks after each spin, accumulating other identical icons across the reels. The bonus win is cumulative and added together at the end.
- Major Nelson’s Bachelor Pad (Only available in the Magic Bottle base game): Players select icons in a pick bonus round to reveal credit awards and bonus multipliers which are combined together at the end of the game round.
- Major Nelson in Orbit (Only available in the Wishes Granted base game): A bonus credit award is uncovered as icons are selected one by one to reveal each digit of the bonus amount, with the final selection awarding a bonus credit multiplier on this novel pick style feature which increases anticipation
Summary
The TV show may not have been your biggest wish come true, the feature film sequels were definitely not and nor may the slot be, being packed with bonus features as it is does seem to leave wins a little few and far between in the base game and all the video TV clips and sound effects in the world aren’t hiding that fact. Despite this the bonus features are rewarding when they are granted and the game is fun and frivolous to play despite a higher degree than normal in terms of volatility.
