NBC Hit Game Show — Jeopardy!

Jeopardy! is a television show that features a unique quiz competition where participants have to come up with the question using the cues presented by the host. The game was created in 1964 and was first aired on NBC in the same year. Created by Merv Griffin, Jeopardy! had Art Fleming and Alex Trebek as the hosts over different time periods. The original series ran from 1964 to 1975, and as hosted by Art Fleming. After a gap of 3 years, the game show was back as The All New Jeopardy! in 1978 and ended again in 1979.

The most viewed season of the game show began in October 1984, and was hosted by Alex Trebek, who continues to host the program to date. As of 2011, over 6,000 episodes of Jeopardy were aired on US television and the show has won a record 30 Daytime Emmy awards during its stint. Jeopardy also won a Peabody award and was ranked at number 2 in the list of Top 50 Game Shows by Game Show Network in 2006. TV Guide ranked the show at number 1 in its list of the 60 Greatest Game Shows ever in 2013.

The popularity of the game spread across the world, triggering regional adaptations of the show in several  foreign countries. Jeopardy! is presently in its 30th season and continues to enjoy popularity across the nation, with Alex Trebek at his best. Trebek is expected to retire from the show sometime in mid-2016.

Alex Trebek holds records as one of the longest running game show hosts, next to Pat Sajak – host of Wheel of Fortune. He did come under scrutiny though during Jeopardy! kids week where Alex allegedly brought an 8th grader to tears for misspelling the word "emancipation" on the show.
