United Kingdom
SlotCatalog Awards – Top release: January – June 2020
Once again, SlotCatalog lets the data speak to which were the most qualitative, popular and highly positioned casino game releases for the United Kingdom market during the first half of 2020.
SlotCatalog Analytics Insights
We’ve scanned 796 UK casinos. The 234 most popular casinos were selected to be included in the data set. The data includes games that were released between ’2020-01-01’ and ’2020-06-30’ and the Average SlotRank metric is based on the games rank between day 30 and day 60 after their release date.
The January release from Red Tiger, which was the first collaboration between the RT and NetEnt really engraved its position in the casino lobbies for most markets. The balanced gameplay, luxurious theme and the use of the Megaways technology really ramped up the overall experience of this remake of the 10 years older classic Piggy Riches.
The expectations on this game were high, to say the least, but it’s safe to say that the development team carried these expectations without trouble and delivered a neat end product.
by Reel Time Gaming / Blueprint
In May, Blueprint Gaming released 7’s Deluxe (a port of Reel Time Gamings land-based classic SEVENS) which definitely caught the attention of a lot of United Kingdom punters. In a video slot market where increasing gameplay complexity and pristine visuals have been the trend it’s certainly impressive to have Blueprint Gaming entertaining us with simplicity and perfection. A big factor to the game’s popularity definitely lies in the connected Jackpot King feature.
Given the simplicity of the game, you might think that this kind of game would lose its traction after a month or two but that’s definitely not the case!
Playtech’s Age of the Gods jackpot franchise continues to conquer the United Kingdom Market and in late January it was time for Helen, Paris and Achilles to enter the spotlight, each with their own free spin feature. The jackpots definitely help to keep players’ on their toes as the base game max win is rather limited.
Once again, Playtech made sure that no UK punter forgot about their godly franchise as the game is visible at high positions in the lobbies of several high traffic casino brands.

Commentary to the UK rankings
Generally speaking, classics do very well in the UK and it’s not a surprise that Red Tiger’s excellent remake of the NetEnt classic Piggy Riches claims the first spot in the United Kingdom market. Blueprints 7’s Deluxe based on Reel Time Gaming land-based slot machine SEVENS, proves this point further. The bigger part of the remaining top positions is claimed by Playtech & Playtech Studios which also comes without surprise given their long time presence and strength in the United Kingdom market.
NetEnt studios have no release in the top10 (if you exclude Red Tiger that is), which is a bit surprising to us given their distribution strength. But let’s be honest, there has not been a release of the same magnitude as Dead or Alive 2 from them this first half of 2020.

Back in January 2020 we released an infographic over the most popular, sticky slot games released during 2019. Curious about how the top 5 United Kingdom 2019 releases are performing today?
The AVG SlotRank of the top 5 UK releases from 2019 is rather high compared to the other markets we’ve measured. The release that succeeded the best in this additional test of time is Blueprint’s Eye of Horus Megaways. Red Tiger’s Pirate’s Plenty Battle for Gold has also done okay, by British standards.
The other three NetEnt releases are still having some lobby positions but had a larger part rotated out.

Market Situation Overview
Game studios have brought fewer releases to the market in the first half of 2020 than
the first half of 2019. The number of casino game releases is down by 22.26%. Is it due to the current world situation, a strong trend in quality over quantity or the peak of casino games? We’ll keep our conclusions regarding this decline for another analytical piece.
Commentary to SlotRank in general
SlotCatalog is tracking game lobby positions daily for over 40 different markets now. We often observe the same
pattern for high-end releases. The release starts out on a high SlotRank at the release. Usually, it drops significantly after 2-3 months and after 6-7 months we often see the game lose more lobby positions.
Let's look at the Turn your Fortune rankings as an example. Released at the beginning of 2019, the game came with an original game mechanic and was ranked among the top 10 games of 2019 for the UK, Sweden and Germany. Six months after the release the UK SlotRank for Turn your Fortune was 100+ and now it has dropped to 500+.
Another common case is when a new game ranks high from the start for several markets. But after a couple of
months, it declines in a lot of the markets but stays strong in one or two particular ones. Let’s have a look at Jackpot Raiders from Yggdrasil. This jackpot game was released in the middle of 2019 and reached a top 10 position for the Sweden market. The game’s popularity dropped in the UK and
Germany but stayed popular and high ranked in Sweden.
The high SlotRank doesn’t have to mean that the game kept top positions in a lot of casino lobbies. In the case
of Jackpot Raiders, it’s merely that one very strong Swedish casino (Swedish horse betting giant ATG) has kept the game at good positions. However, that positioning definitely provides the game with a large number of spins, even months after the release.
There are also rare scenarios when a game reaches its peak popularity several months after the game’s release.
An example of this is Pragmatic Play’s January 2019 release, Mustang Gold.
